I can say that outside the car, it sounds terrible, like unpleasant to hear. I've seen some comments that WRC8 sounds are more accurate when inside the car. WRC8 sounds like arse, both in speech and engines (from 3rd person cam at least). So the visuals in DR2 looked more polished imo effects felt cleaner, background content looked less trashy (Australia being a strong example, it got pretty fugly in WRC8).īut at the same time, WRC8 changes things up much more than DR2 does during any given stage so much more that it makes DR2's stage visuals - polished as they may be - feel very repetitive in comparison. My impression was very strongly that DR2 is better in the technical sense.īUT, WRC8 is significantly better in terms of visual diversity. So if anything wins you over other than the driving model, it'd be this. They just feel good, but that's probably my thoughts on the driving more than anything, and there's still no denying that they are way less diverse than WRC8's. Having said all that, I still do like DR2's stages a lot. WRC8 uses fictitious stages so there's more room for creativity, but really this isn't much of an excuse for DR2 even real life settings have potential to mix it up a lot more than DR2 does. No such variety in DR2, where you'll maybe switch between gravel and tarmac a bit with a fixed weather setting and that's it. You'll go through the bush, around a park, over footpaths then onto a wide modern tarmac road in one stage in WRC8, with dynamic weather to boot. WRC8 is hands down better on stage designs.
With a steering wheel, my understanding is that this issue doesn't exist. Even on its minimum possible setting it was still more sensitive than DR2's default, and too high for me to feel like it made sense. Side note - If using a controller, my (very strong) impression is that WRC8 is ridiculously too sensitive on a controller. The general consensus is that DR2's physics are better for gravel, WRC8's are better for tarmac. Personal preference comes into play a lot on this one people go both ways (thus the suggestion to try both if you can). So keeping that in mind, here's a quick rundown anyway of some of the main differences:
